Informatics, your step to the world of Mechatronics - InfoTRON
7 March - 14 June 2024
Within the programme “Strategic Partnership for Education 5.0”, four local school institutions, namely “Grigore Moisil”, “Dr. Ioan Meșotă”, “Unirea” and “Andrei Mureșanu” National Colleges, Brașov County School Inspectorate, Transilvania University of Brașov through its Faculties of Product Design and Environment, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Mathematics - Computer Science, together with the companies Miele Brașov, respectively Siemens Industry Software, organize the fourth edition of InfoTRON - Informatics, your step to the world of Mechatronics.
The aim of this programme and of the collaboration is to contribute, through extra-curricular activities, to the development of skills for the future generations of workforce, aligned with the demands of industry, by 2030.
The programme allows pupils to acquire new skills, adapt what they learn, put their passion into practice, through workshops and creative activities.
InfoTRON promotes MECHATRONICS (MECHanics + elecTRONics + informatICs) among the 5th- 12th graders, through courses and competitions, with a view to applying computer science to the conception, design, manufacture and implementation of mechatronic systems, which emphasize the combination of the technical and behavioural skills needed in the future (teamwork, creativity, innovation, etc.)
The project will take place in the time frame between 07.03 and 14.06.2024 and will include the following stages:
· In the time frame from 07.03 to 27.04.2024 - Weekly training sessions, by age groups, provided by the academic teaching personnel of the Faculty of Product Design and Environment within Transilvania University of Brașov, together with the students of the aforementioned faculties.
· In the time frame from 28.04 to 06.06.2024 – The pupils’ conception, design, manufacture and implementation of their own mechatronic systems projects. Organization of the competitions at college level, where the best student-coordinated pupils will compete to showcase their creativity and expertise acquired within this collaboration.
· In the time frame from 09 to 11.06.2024 - The mechatronic systems project competition, in which the best achievements of each college will compete for the final podium.
· In the time frame from 11 to 12.06.2024 – The mechatronic systems hackathon competition, for the advanced level teams from “Grigore Moisil” National College of Computer Science, in which the pupils will mechanically and electrically assemble their own mobile mechatronic systems, as well as program and optimize them to autonomously perform the tasks set by the judging committee.
· The award ceremony of the best projects, where the pupils’ enthusiasm and involvement will be rewarded with attractive prizes offered by the partner companies, will take place in 14.06.2024.
All through this time frame, the 327 registered pupils from the four colleges will participate in extracurricular courses given by 30 student trainers and will be coordinated by two professors of the Faculty of Product Design and Environment within Transilvania University of Brașov, along with specialists of the Development Centre within Miele Brașov.
The 5th-7th graders will be trained on LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 and LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kits, whereas the 9th-11th graders on specialized kits based on Arduino and ESP32 microcontroller development systems, and components that allow the creation of applications with a progressive degree of complexity (beginner, medium, advanced level).
The material support of this action is provided by the companies Miele Brașov, respectively Siemens Industry Software.
