Admission requirements
The doctoral admission competition is valid only for the field, institution, doctoral form and year in which it was organized.
The following applicants have the right to participate in the competition for admission to doctoral studies:
- Master’s degree graduates – Master studies organized under Law no. 288/2004 (Bologna Process), with subsequent amendments and additions:
- Bachelor’s degree graduates or graduates having an equivalent degree – long-term university studies organized according to Law no. 84/1995, republished, with subsequent amendments and additions;
- University studies graduates who studied abroad, having their studies recognized by the special department within the relevant ministry, as being at least the equivalent of
Master studies.
The total cumulative duration of the Bachelor's and Master's studies (with respect to the Bologna Process) must provide at least 300 transfer credits (ECTS).
At Transilvania University of Brașov, in order to be able to enter the doctoral admission competition, applicants must have obtained a GPA of at least 7 (seven) in Bachelor studies and a GPA of at least 7 (seven) in Master studies, as appropriate. With the approval of the Council for Doctoral University Studies (CSUD), applicants who have obtained awards in national or international competitions in the last 5 years can be exempted from the condition of the minimum GPA. Only applicants who have obtained a GPA of at least 8.50 in Bachelor studies (arithmetic mean between the cumulative GPA and the average obtained at the Bachelor degree examination) are eligible for tuition-free education.
If certain tuition-free places remain vacant, at the proposal of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School (SDI), CSUD may approve derogations from the abovementioned requirement, namely they can re(allocate) the vacancies to the applicants who opt for tuition-free education – without scholarship (CFFB, FRB) and who have obtained a GPA of at least 8.00 in Bachelor studies. The following categories of applicants are eligible to participate in the doctoral admission competition:
- Romanian citizens
- citizens of EU Member States, EAA and Swiss Confederation,as well as British citizens and their family members, under the same legal conditions that apply to Romanian citizens, including those concerning the tuition fees. The recognition of studies attended outside Romania will be performed by the special department within the relevant ministry (https://cnred.edu.ro/en/recognition-of-the-studies-graduated-by-eu-citizens-required-for-admission-in-a-romanian-higher-education-institution-at-the-master-doctorate-level/), before the applicants register for the admission competition. Each applicant must present at the competition the certificate of recognition of studies. The procedure can be initiated through UNITBV or in person, by the applicants. Applicants have to take into account that there is a 30-day period to resolve the issue of recognition of studies.
- EU third-country nationals, according to the specific methodologies issued by the relevant ministry and in accordance with the regulations of the doctoral school (https://www.unitbv.ro/en/research/doctoral-studies/admission/non-eu-citizens/conditions.html).
- Romanians from everywhere.
