6 August 2023
The first participation of BlueStreamline, the racing team of Transilvania University of Brașov, in the “Formula Student” competition of Portugal, also earned the students of Brașov their first podium result right on the 1st place.
For 8 months, students at several faculties within Transilvania University of Brașov had designed a racing car from scratch, built and prepared it for international competitions. In late July, the 14th single-seat race car made by the BlueStreamline team was launched; and this week it was the star of the “Formula Student” competition in Portugal.
At the starting line, 16 universities from 7 European countries lined up. In total, there were 5 tests that the students passed: the acceleration test, where they ranked first, the autocross test, where they were in second place, skid pad – 3rd place, endurance – 1st place, efficiency – 1st place. At the end, in the general ranking, the BlueStreamline team of Transilvania University of Brașov ranked first. Moreover, they also received the “Formula Student Portugal” special award.
This 1st place is all the more valuable as it comes exactly in the year in which the BlueStreamline team turns a decade and a half of existence.
“I am glad that together with the 12 students, we succeeded in developing a single-seater that, in some respects, surpassed the performance of racing cars developed by top European universities. It wasn’t just about engineering work; it was and still is about teamwork, passion and many hours spent in the workshop on the University Colina Campus. For 15 years, BlueStreamline has also been a launching pad for students, in the automotive industry and beyond” stated Assoc. Prof. dr. Eng. Mihai Comsiț, the coordinator of the BlueStreamline team.
This competition of Portugal took place between 1 and 5 August, on “Kartodromo Castelo Branco” circuit. For the BlueStreamline team, two more competitions are coming up this summer, on the circuits of Spain and Croatia.
