Chamber Jazz@UT – Sebastian Spanache | Upamercado
21 March 2024, at 7:00 p.m., Multicultural Centre
The next Chamber Jazz@Transilvania University concert has as its guest the pianist Sebastian Spanache, who will present his solo album Upamercado at the Multicultural Centre. Uparmercado is the result of the artist’s travels and experiences in Latin America, where he was inspired by the rich musical traditions and vibrant cultures of that region - where the lively rhythms of samba and bossa nova, the melancholic melodies of bolero and tango, as well as the improvisational aura of “straight-ahead” lines and Eastern European vibes fused with exquisite instrumental mastery provide a unique and immersive listening experience.
Sebastian Spanache entered the world of jazz as a pupil at “Ion Vidu” National College of Art, in Timişoara; he then founded his first jazz and funk band, alongside which he performed concerts in Romania and won many prizes in student competitions.
Upon the opening of Romania’s first jazz and pop faculty, namely “Richard Oschanitzky” Faculty of Jazz and Pop within Tibiscus University, Sebastian Spanache waived the National University of Classical Music and turned his attention to composition and jazz piano.
He led the group Sebastian Spinache Trio, which marked numerous appearances on the stages of important festivals both in Romania and abroad, as well as three albums. Together with the trio, he won significant awards such as Best Album - Sounds 2014 and “Johnny Raducanu” Trophy in Brăila, in 2013; and, worth mentioning, Band of the Year - Banat Jazz Awards 2017.
Spanache also composes movie and video game music, appreciated with consequential reviews on the specialized websites DownBeat, JayIsGames and Gamespot, for which he won several awards in the USA and Europe.
