BlueStreamline Racing Team Wins First Place at an International Competition
13 August 2023
The BlueStreamline racing team from Transilvania University of Brasov has won first place for the second time within two weeks at the "Formula Student" competition. This time, the victory took place in Spain, on the Catalunya circuit. After achieving a gold medal last week in Portugal, the BlueStreamline team headed to Spain for their second international competition of the year.
A total of 36 teams from universities across Europe participated in the race. In addition to the track events, student teams had to go through various challenges such as presenting a business plan, outlining the costs required for building the single-seater car, and even detailing the design plan for the race car. In total, there were 8 tasks that the 12 students from Transilvania University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Mihai Comșiț, successfully completed. These tasks included achieving 10th place in the Business Plan category, 6th place in the Cost Report, 4th place in the Design Report, 4th place in the SkidPad event, 3rd place in autocross, 2nd place in acceleration, and 1st place in endurance and efficiency.
The cumulative scores placed our students directly in the 1st position in the Combustion class. "The fact that a team of 12 students and a professor managed to design and build a race car from scratch in a year, winning prestigious international competitions, demonstrates that quality education is achievable and is being pursued in our country, therefore Romania has a bright future. Congratulations to the students and their professor!" stated Prof. Dr. Eng. Ioan Vasile Abrudan, the Rector of Transilvania University of Brașov.
This marks the 13th participation of the BlueStreamline team at the Catalunya circuit in Spain, making them the only European team to have participated in all editions of "Formula Student Spain." With two gold medals earned in Portugal and Spain, the BlueStreamline team will proudly return home. They are scheduled to compete in Croatia for their third international competition in the upcoming days. In late July, BlueStreamline unveiled their 14th single-seater car, built entirely from scratch by students.
