Sonatas for Saxophone and Piano

The concert performed by Palkó Csanád (saxophone) and Veress Gáspár (piano) is part of a tour aimed at promoting the saxophone as a classical music instrument. The proposed repertoire is varied, featuring representative works for the 20th century’s stylistic directions: Claude Debussy - Petite Suite (transcription by Arno Bornkamp) and Rhapsody for alto saxophone and orchestra (transcription by Vincent David), Takashi Yoshimatsu - Fuzzy Bird Sonata, Fernande Decruck - Sonata en ut#, Erwin Schulhoff - Hot Sonata , Ryo Noda - MAÏ, Barry Cockroft - KuKu, Zoltán Kodály - Epigrams (transcription), Béla Bartók - Pál Arma: Suite, Paysanne Hongroise (transcription), Gáspár Veress - Ethiosonata (premiere), Georges Bizet and Francois Borne - Carmen Fantasy.
Csanád Palkó was born at Odorheiu Secuiesc in 1995. He took private lessons with the clarinettist and saxophonist Zoltán Réman. In 2018, he began his musical studies, being admitted to the Classical Saxophone Department of the Music Faculty within the University of Debrecen, where he studied with the clarinettist and saxophonist Levente Puskás. During the years spent in Debrecen, he attended masterclasses with great artists such as Arno Bornkamp (Netherlands), Nobuya Sugawa (Japan), Claude Delangle (France), Ryo Noda (Japan), Hans de Jong (Belgium), Lev Pupis (Slovenia), Rodrigo Vila (Spain) and Christian Wirth (France).
He has performed as a soloist, chamber musician or orchestra member in Budapest, Debrecen, Bled (Slo), Cluj-Napoca, Oradea, Satu Mare, Sighisoara, Székelykeresztúr. In 2020, he received a Hungarian national scholarship for higher education. In 2021, he graduated from the University of Debrecen, being awarded the bachelor’s degree in performing arts, with distinction. He is currently a first-year student at Gheorghe Dima Music Academy, majoring in Clarinet Saxophone, where he has Zoltán Réman as a professor.
Gáspár Veress was born at Sfântu Gheorghe in 1991. He started playing the piano at the age of 6, under Tibor Papp’s guidance. In 2012, he was accepted to Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music of Budapest, where he had Gyöngyi Falvainé Keveházi and Imre Hargitai as professors. In 2014, by dint of an Erasmus scholarship, he studied with Imre Rohmann and Tünde Kurucz at Mozarteum Music Academy of Salzburg. He completed his master’s degree studies with the piano professor Adriana Bera at Gheorghe Dima Music Academy of Cluj-Napoca. He has won several piano competitions, including the second prize at Mozart Music Competition of Cluj-Napoca in 2014. In 2021, he was awarded the bachelor’s degree in composition at Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music. He is currently a student at the Doctoral School within Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music, under Adrian Pop’s guidance. He attended masterclasses with Bruno Mantovani (France) - composition, Agustín Fernandez (UK) - composition, William Kinderman (USA), Melinda Lee Masur (USA), Robert Levin (USA), Balázs Szokolay (Weimar), Imre Rohmann (Salzburg), Rita Wagner (Budapest), and more.
