The Etnovember Festival will not take place this year
The project “Mediateca Norbert Detaeye” was initiated thirty years ago, in 1990, at Transilvania University of Brașov. The artisans of this cultural project were Norbert Detaeye, a musician and designer from Belgium, and professor Marina Cionca.
Every year in the third weekend of November friends and promoters of the Mediateca met to celebrate its anniversary and to plan future events. In 1998 they decided to take further steps into the community life of the city of Brașov, and so the Etnovember Festival was created. It became in time a yearly cultural milestone, being the longest-lived cultural project supported by the City Administration and Transilvania University.
This year, because of the pandemic, Etnovember 2020, planned for 21-23 November, will not take place. The project planners are actively searching for new forms of expression and an adequate concept for the present and especially for the future times.
We wish to reiterate our full gratitude towards our Etnovember project partners, our friends from here and from the Belgian team, our students, graduates, local authorities, cultural institutions and personalities, for the successful collaboration during these yearly cultural events.
It is now the moment to remember that the motto of the Etnovember Festival is “Ars vincere tenebras/Art defeats darkness” – probably more actual than ever. As a hope giving remembrance, we kindly invite you to listen to the gospel concert of the great musician Norbert Detaeye recorded at the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral of Brasov during the 2019 Etnovember.
